RESIDENTIAL DX INSTALLATION New Home (Renfrew, Ontario) Newly-built rustic log cabins in the Ottawa Valley offer an outstanding opportunity to derive maximum benefit from geothermal power.
In this project, we are using a DX heat pump to drive forced air heating and cooling, radiant in-floor heating, and on-demand domestic hot water production.
The ground loops are installed in the usual manner...
...and connected to the DX heat pump. Due to the internal dimensions of the cottages and the lack of a basement, the heat pump is installed outside. This has no impact on system performance...
...and the end result is aesthetically pleasing, and much less obtrusive than a conventional exterior air conditioner.
The interior installation is designed to fit neatly into utility spaces. Under the stairs, we see: ...the distribution module for the radiant in-floor heating system (left); and ...the refrigerant buffer tank for the DX heat pump (right).
And here we see the air handler for the forced air heating and cooling system, artfully concealed inside a closet:
The end result is an attractive interior, completely free of mechanical clutter.
